The Backwoods

Where we teeter between our love of modern convenience and the yearning for something long past; a world where neighbors knew your name and a “Friend Request” was eye contact and a smile.

Startled a flock of geese...more than once.

This week in my life I…

Wondered if Luke knows he is small...

Watched Anthony fall in love with Norman Lowell's art...

Watched Anthony pan for gold at the beach...

Stalked some ducks on the Ninilchik River...

Cooked marshmallows with the kids...

Drove to Anchorage...

Got Billy's heart checked out...

Enjoyed the quiet on the way back from Anchorage...

Photographed a new baby...

Started a new walk-up counter for Destini's coffee shop...

Watched my little farmer girl be ecstatic over her eggs...

Was glad the boys got the transmission back in my truck...

Started our new bar stool project for the coffee shop...

Told Billy on more than one occasion to get the goat out of the house...

And yes...I squatted down, scraped my buns, and then pulled THIS out of my butt cheek! (oh...and painted the living room as you can see by my thumb. 🙂

Luke’s not small, he’s just short.

Anthony has excellent taste in art.

Destini has on her church jeans I see. (They’re holy…)

    A kid with a kid.

And geez, is that a splinter?

Holy cow.  I was totally freaking out for a minute because I thought this was all ONE DAY!  I’m so relieved it’s not!  I feel silly.  Anyway, I love the way you’re documenting and capturing these moments.  And I love that the captions aren’t just “Watched Luke play basketball.”  What you said is so much more of a mother’s *journey.*  One thing that non-mother humans sometimes seem to miss is that motherhood isn’t all , “get the kids up, feed them, take them to basketball.”  and a lot more, “wonder if they’ll be able to make it out of bed after last night’s hour-long night terror, then hope they can get some breakfast down today, because without it, their medication isn’t going to work, then get them to basketball, and wonder if they don’t see the girls towering a head above them.”  motherhood takes a lot out of you–but it gives so much in return.  I’m feeling inspired by your photos and journal of sorts.  If I decide to completely copy you, I’l link over and give you credit.

I want to know, also, how the results came out!  You have raised a bunch of good kids.  Just think, they soon, will probably be running things around that area.  Then, is will be when you will realize the way you taught them, was either right or wrong.  I think you are going to be very proud, in the future.
Back to the results….let us know!!

  12. Beth Haynes Butler says:

I love your kids, and the people you have raised them to be.  I so admire you and your husband.

  13. Heidi says:

Ha love the goat. My next door neighbor just got 3 goats. They cry outside my bedroom window every morning. Good thing I’m an animal lover. 😉

Did I miss it? How did Billy’s results come out?
