The Backwoods

Where we teeter between our love of modern convenience and the yearning for something long past; a world where neighbors knew your name and a “Friend Request” was eye contact and a smile.

You’ll Do

I don’t know who you think you are

You cant tell me what to do

I’ve been walking this road a while now

And I’ve seen the likes of you

You don’t know what you’re doing

And I’ll never let you through

You’ll never be my real dad he’s, not you.

But you’ll do Grover’s voice at midnight

Cause you said we’d read it later

You’ll do late night runs for ice cream

Cause vanilla’s not a flavor

You don’t know what your doing

But you always see it through

I know you’re not my real dad but, you’ll do.

You’ll do pancakes Sunday mornings

You’ll coach soccer, decorate for prom

And when nobody else will stand up

You’ll even be the cookie mom

You’ll do all the things he couldn’t

Or maybe just wouldn’t do

I know you’re not my real dad but, you’ll do.

You’ll do driving lessons, have late night talks,

You’ll help me solve for X

You’ll do bleacher time, let me sip your wine

You’ll tell me the truth about sex

You’ll do all the things he didn’t

The things he wouldn’t do

I know you’re not my real dad but, you’ll do.

Tomorrow I get married,

And before I say I do,

I need someone to stand for me

And well, I thought of you

Cause you knew what you were doin’

Things you didn’t have to do

And all along my real dad, was you.
